Name each balance by its actual scope
Before adding account amounts, record the asset and the meaning of each field. A wallet total, an available amount, an isolated allocation and a cross-wallet measure can describe overlapping or different scopes. They should not automatically become independent rows in a grand total.
The cited account documentation separates balance, cross-wallet, available and maximum-transferable fields. Their presence in one response does not make them identical. Keep the documented account mode and applicable field meanings rather than choosing whichever label produces the largest available amount.
An internal allocation can leave the teaching total unchanged
Consider an invented ledger containing 100 units of one collateral asset. Under a deliberately simplified two-bucket model,20 units are earmarked to one isolated allocation and 80 remain in the other bucket. Moving 10 units between those two buckets changes them to 30 and 70, while the model total stays 100.
The example excludes positions, fees, PnL and other movements. It is not a provider rule about transferable or withdrawable balances. The 10-unit allocation is not a deposit from outside the account or a trading profit.
| Fictional stage | Earmarked / other bucket | Teaching total |
|---|---|---|
| Before | 20 /80 | 100 asset units |
| Internal allocation+10 | 30 /70 | 100 asset units |
| Claimed profit from movement | Not supported | No external gain established |
Do not add a subtotal to the total it belongs to
If an account display already includes an allocation in a broader total, adding both can count the same collateral twice. Retain the source definition and any parent/subtotal relationship. A familiar field name is not enough to decide whether a value is additive.
An unexplained difference should remain a reconciliation gap. Do not assign it to PnL, a fee or a transfer without matching records. Conversely, a matching total does not prove every underlying posting is correct if several omitted movements cancel one another.
A SGD valuation is another layer of the record
A Singapore reader may see a SGD portfolio display while the collateral ledger is denominated in a token or another currency. Preserve asset quantity and display valuation separately. Do not treat 20 token units as 20 SGD or assume a token is equivalent to a fiat dollar.
A conversion requires its own documented rate, direction, time and scope. Without that evidence, the quantity ledger can still be compared in its asset units while the SGD value remains unknown. A valuation movement should not be described as an internal allocation.
Track the allocation with a paired movement reference
In the teaching ledger, moving ten units from the shared bucket into the isolated bucket creates two entries: minus ten in one scope and plus ten in the other. Give both the same movement reference and keep the asset unchanged. If only one side appears in an export, record an unmatched movement instead of manufacturing its partner. In a real statement, fees, PnL or other movements can also affect balances; the two-bucket identity applies only to the deliberately closed example.
Keep actual operational limits outside the toy model
A real provider can impose account-specific transfer, margin-mode or position restrictions. This worksheet does not establish whether any mode change is permitted. An acknowledgement about one setting is not a complete account state or proof that funds can be withdrawn.
Close with the supplied scope definitions, posting references and missing evidence. The method organises an entered ledger without executing a transfer or recommending that a reader move collateral.
