Prop Account Margin: An Internal Transfer Is Not New Equity
Margin allocation answers where collateral is assigned. An evaluation loss rule answers how a defined account value is assessed. Treat them as related records rather than interchangeable balances. An internal transfer cannot create profit.

Draw the ledger boundary first
State which accounts and assets are included. In a fictional single-currency ledger, free funds are 8,000 units and allocated collateral is 2,000, giving total funds of 10,000. Moving 500 from free to allocated changes the split to 7,500 and 2,500.
The total remains 10,000. A report showing only the allocated pocket would increase, but that is an internal movement rather than an external deposit or realised gain. Keep the transfer’s two sides and unique identity linked.
Add the separate valuation observation
If the supplied open result is minus 150 and there are no other supplied movements, the simplified combined equity is 9,850 both before and after the internal transfer. This example does not calculate liquidation price or assert that all venues expose the same margin mechanics.
For an actual product, isolated or cross treatment, supported collateral, valuation rules and other positions need documented definitions. Missing liabilities or assets leave the total incomplete. Do not assume that moving collateral changes a provider’s evaluation floor.
| Field | Before transfer | After transfer |
|---|---|---|
| Free funds | 8,000 | 7,500 |
| Allocated collateral | 2,000 | 2,500 |
| Total funds | 10,000 | 10,000 |
| Equity with supplied floating −150 | 9,850 | 9,850 |
Use the programme’s actual account definition
HashHedge describes balance plus floating result in its equity guidance. Confirm the actual account scope and applicable purchased conditions instead of importing a margin model from another service. This site’s previous isolated/cross bookkeeping article remains available.
The optional sponsored link points to current HashHedge programmes. No funds are transferred and no margin configuration is changed. The useful result is a reconciled teaching ledger, not a technique for bypassing an account limit.
